Personal update

Hey everyone, this is an update to my recent announcement of my grandmother's death, it's just personal things and nothing relating to Lucky 13 so please feel free to skip reading this post if you need to. Click "Read More" if you'd like to read!
First off I'd like to thank everyone who shared info on my recent sale and especially those who were able to make an order so that I could get home to California. Sadly very early the day after I began the sale my grandmother passed away peacefully but the sale still allowed me to go to California for her funeral and gave me the opportunity to have that closure.

Considering what the primary reason for my trip to San Diego was I had a really nice time. When we arrived Thursday my girlfriend Erin and I went to my favorite San Diego pizza place (DiMille's!) with my mom, brother, and brother's girlfriend, then to Balboa Park where we went to the Museum of Man (and I got this sort of creepy receipt. At least you get a discount on Student Torture!) before going back to our hotel for the night.

On Friday we went to the San Diego Zoo where I walked way too much but we saw pretty much everything we wanted to see (except the arctic foxes which made me very sad) and we got a lot of great sunshine and exercise. Here, check out some of the pics!
Saturday was the memorial and funeral for my grandmother. It was a gorgeous ceremony. I feel at peace knowing she's with my grandpa who's been lonely these last 13 years. I was able to take a lot of beautiful pictures during the burial ceremony, including a few of a butterfly (which were released during the casket lowering) that landed on the floral arrangement.

I also wore some amazing purple lipstick (because I couldn't find my red lipstick in time for the flight) to the funeral so I just had to leave one last kiss on grandma.

Erin (my girlfriend) even met my entire family on Saturday. And she still decided she wanted to come home with me, and in fact much of my family said I need to keep her because she obviously makes me so happy, so I count it as a positive thing ;-) Also, I learned that my super-cool cousin might want to move up to the Portland area which would be beyond amazing!

Sunday Erin, my mom, and I went to Old Town San Diego for some Mexican food and to hang out. We all pooped out pretty early but it was fun anyway.

Finally, on Monday Erin and I mostly sat around Balboa Park and enjoyed one last day of cool, sunshine-y weather before we headed home late that night. I even got to try a sample of a Blind Lady Alehouse beer named Spirit of the Dead, which to date is the first beer that I've ever liked! I wish I'd had time to sit and enjoy a pint but by that time it was almost time for me to return the car, sadface. Next time I'm going to set aside time to try some local beers, though!

As I said, overall I had a great time considering the reason for my visit. I tried to turn my trip to San Diego into a vacation in which I happened to attend my grandma's funeral, and I left with a lot of positive memories along with the negative feelings. It really helped that my mom gave us some free passes to the San Diego Zoo as Erin loves zoos (and so do I!) and the zoo day was a hugely positive experience for both of us before a very emotionally draining day.

I wouldn't have been able to make it to San Diego to go to the funeral and get that closure without your help, so even if you were "only" able to help by sharing it was more helpful than you think, and thank you so much, from the bottom of my heart.

So glad to see you were able to honor your grandma's memory in So. Cal. I bet your grandma was happy in heaven that you were able to get out and do some nice things with your girlfriend/family. And it's always a good feeling when the family get's along with your special someone. (PS that was an awesome lipstick shade! It was meant to be)
