Happy 2nd Birthday to Lucky 13!

6/13/2014

Today, June 13th, marks 2 years since Lucky 13 Lacquer first started taking orders!! How perfect is it that it falls on a Friday this year as well? To celebrate I want to do some very special things with/for you all! Here's a quick run-down of the announcements.
  1. Starting off with sad news, the Sailor Senshi collection (except for Lady of the Moon) will be discontinued and removed from the shop on June 30th.
  2. A collection inspired by The Avengers is being released today! It includes a freebie if you order the whole collection!
  3. Everything except charity polishes, limited editions, and the new Avengers collection is 20% off with the code HAPPYBDAY2U from now until 11:59PM PST on 6/19.
  4. To celebrate Lucky 13's birthday being on a Friday the 13th (so it's extra special!) I'm allowing 25 requests for any previously released polish that has been discontinued (NOT charity polishes, EXCEPT for Softening the Bad Things, sorry) for just their normal price! The 20% off birthday code does not apply to this.
  5. Other miscellaneous birthday fun!

OK, so there's the short version, now for the long version!

Discontinuing Sailor Senshi

The time has come to let a collection go so that new collections may take its place. I love the Sailor Senshi collection but it needs to clear out to make room for other exciting things in the works. Lady of the Moon will remain as a one-off but the rest of the collection will not be restocked once they've sold out.

Avengers Assemble

Lucky 13's latest collection is inspired by Marvel's The Avengers, primarily the recent movie franchise, but also a little bit of the comics! There are 7 shades and if you order the entire collection you get one of them free!! The free shade is a green to black thermal inspired by Loki and the freebie version is 10ml with the option to upgrade to full (15ml) size. And because it's L13's second birthday, the first 2 people to order the complete collection will get a free upgrade to a full size bottle of Loki's polish, just make sure you add the proper item to your cart! (Update: the 2 free upgrades have been claimed!)

Happy Birthday to Lucky 13!

What's a birthday without a sale?! From now until 11:59PM PST on 6/19 you can get 20% off almost everything with the code HAPPYBDAY2U! You even get an extra 20% off of sale/clearance items!!

Requesting Discontinued Shades

Across the months there have been many requests for discontinued polishes, and while I'm happy to fill them when possible I wanted to open up for everyone to have a chance at getting a shade they've been wanting!

Only 25 slots are available at this time, when they're sold out and the requests have been fulfilled I may release another 25 slots. Please bear in mind that by purchasing this item it is only a REQUEST, I must still have enough of the ingredients in stock to fulfill your request and if I am unable to fill the request I will let you know as soon as possible so we can go from there. Currently there are no shades that I am completely out of stock for but if an item is requested more than once it's first come first served to be fulfilled. I do ask that you limit yourself to 2 requests so that everyone who wants a discontinued shade has a chance at it!

These items will be mixed to order and will add a bit of time between ordering and shipping.

Please read through the "How to order" instructions on the product page!

Currently I have limited ingredients for the following shades:
  • Hey, Who Turned Out the Lights?

More birthday fun!

Throughout the day there will be a couple other fun things like flash giveaways and coupons for your next purchase! Keep an eye on the Facebook page for announcements! The birthday fun will happen randomly so let's hope that Friday the 13th is YOUR lucky day!

Hello, I'm the Doctor.

11/22/2013

All right everyone, grab your sonic screwdriver, Converse high-tops, and fez and get ready for something very special!

As I'm sure many of you know tomorrow is the 50th anniversary of Doctor Who. And in December the Eleventh Doctor will become the Twelfth. Below is a trailer for tomorrow's episode and it has me all kinds of giddy!
I'm so excited about this, you don't even know. I adore David Tennant and I am so glad to see him back on Doctor Who, and if it's possible I love John Hurt even more so it's extra amazing to have these two wonderful men on what is arguably my favorite TV show.

I just had to do something special to mark the occasion. Well, two special somethings, in this case! First, I will be offering Buy One Get One 50% Off on all lacquers from the Last of the Time Lords collection. Simply add the colors you wish from the Last of the Time Lords collection to your cart in pairs and use the code VWORPVWORPVWORP at checkout to receive 25% off (which is the equivalent of BOGO50% off) everything from the LotTL collection only; it will not extend to any other items. This code is active beginning 11:59PM PST today, 11/22, and it will expire at 12:01AM on 11/24.

But that's not enough. Oh no, not for me.

A few months ago my friend Jess came to me with an idea for a Fish Fingers and Custard polish. I love Eleven's whole "fish fingers and custard" bit from his first appearance (though I didn't at the time; I was not ready to let Ten go yet! Heck, I'm still not...) but it didn't find its way to the Last of the Time Lords collection. I worked with Jess and together we created what has been appropriately named Fish Fingers and Custard.
Picture
Picture
Lovely, isn't it?? Smooth, creamy, custard-y yellow base. Golden brown and delicious bars and tiny squares of fish finger-y goodness. Honestly, I was tempted to give this beauty a nibble more than once during its creation. I won't tell you if I gave in to that temptation or not, though, you just get to wonder... The images above show two coats of this extra-special lacquer.

But just as not everyone can be a companion to The Doctor, not everyone will be able to snag Fish Fingers and Custard. There are only twelve bottles available of this super Limited Edition lacquer, and they've been numbered in a very special manner!
Picture
The twelve bottles of Fish Fingers and Custard are only available for those who order $50 or more after discounts and before shipping (well, $48, to allow for those ordering only shorties), which means 11 shorties or 8 full size if you're ordering exclusively from the Last of the Time Lords collection, though the extra-special Fish Fingers and Custard portion of the promotion is open to ordering from more than just the Last of the Time Lords collection. This code is also active beginning 11:59PM PST today, 11/22. You may fill your carts beforehand if you like but the code cannot be applied before 11:59PM and it will expire at 12:01AM on 11/24.

To take advantage of this deal simply add your desired items to your cart ($66 or more of products from LotTL or $50 total from any other collections) and use the code BIGGERONTHEINSIDE. This code has only twelve uses so if you try it and it fails that means all of the codes have been used. Oh, and of course you will still receive the BOGO50% discount as above on the Last of the Time Lords collection!

And before anyone asks, yes, orders made tomorrow will go out before my Thanksgiving vacation officially begins--though I may extend my return date to allow for some actual time off ;-)

OK, enough of my blabbering. Everyone hop into the TARDIS and check out the shop!

Sailor Senshi release

11/7/2013

Note: This post won't be very wordy as I'm still worried to death about my kitty.

For months I've been looking for a way to take the glitters from You Can't Take the Sky from Me and expanding it into a complete rainbow of bases. For the longest time I was simply at a loss as to what would fit for inspiration, though.

Finally I remembered that a good friend had put the idea for a Sailor Moon collection into my head. There are tons of sailor scouts and they could correlate to a so many lovely colors that would fit perfectly with the silver glitter theme!

Each color below has the same amounts and types of glitters as You Can't Take the Sky from Me in different colored jelly/crelly bases. For Luna and Artemis' polishes they are the same glitters and proportions but in gold and with the addition of gold holo moons.

All swatches below are from Accio Lacquer. Please see her reviews here and here!

This 13 piece collection is available in the shop now!

During the first week after release (from now until 11/14) those who order any 6 colors from this collection will have their choice of freebie, either Lady of the Moon or Lord of the Moon. Those who order the entire collection will get both Lady of the Moon and Lord of the Moon as freebies! See the special product page in the shop to add this freebie to your cart.

This freebie is available in full size only, even if you order the rest of the collection in shorties, in order to keep happy thoughts in mind for my sick kitty.

Do Not Open, Dead Inside release

The Walking Dead premier is in just a few days!! I'd hoped to release this collection earlier in the month but due to personal stuff that simply wasn't feasible. But at least there's still plenty of time before Halloween to wear some zombie-related polish!

Have a seat, grab your shotgun or crossbow, and get ready to get zombified. Oh, and just in case you're not fully caught up to the end of Season 4...

I just wanted to brag that yes, I did the photo editing to make this!

Happy Friday the 13th!! Today is my lucky day!

Of course I couldn't let today pass without something super extra awesome and special happening, could I? Of course not! And so, today I'm not releasing one collection. No, that's not good enough. Today I'm releasing TWO collections!!

Both are inspired by JRR Tolkien's Lord of the Rings/The Hobbit universe, and I hope you enjoy them as much as I do.

For those who just want to get to the good stuff, here are the collection pages for There and Back Again and The Fellowship. The rest of you, let us read on!

Softening the Bad Things re-release

9/12/2013

The next batch of Softening the Bad Things is being released starting tomorrow!!

There will be a few very minor differences between this first batch and this one.
Picture
First, the label on top will now be in Vincent Van Gogh's own handwriting (as seen on the left). Previous bottles had the label on the right. If you ordered a bottle from the first batch and would like the new top label you can either make an order and add a note saying you'd like an extra new label or I will be happy to mail you one for $.50. That covers postage and the cost of the envelope. When removing your old label be VERY careful not to scratch the plastic lid!!
Picture
Second, and most importantly, I've not been able to resolve the minor curling issue for the larger glitters in the first batch. I promise, they were fine for MONTHS and then suddenly some of them decided to start curling slightly. The second run will have a more vibrant true gold shade (once again, new is on the left, old is on the right) which will not curl.
Picture
Picture
Swatch comparison above; left is new, right is old.

And finally, for the second run there will be 100 bottles as opposed to 26 from the first run. There will be 80 full size bottles (numbered 1 to 80) and 20 shortie bottles (numbered 81 to 100).

These will be released across 3 different days and at different times in equal amounts to allow for the greatest number of people to get a fair chance at ordering a bottle. The stocking schedule will be as follows.
  • 20 full size, 5 shorties released around noon PST on 9/13
  • 20 full size, 5 shorties released around 6PM PST 9/13
  • 17 full size, 5 shorties released around noon PST 9/14
  • 17 full size, 5 shorties released around 8PM PST 9/15
  • Each re-stock will have a 30-ish minute warning posted to Facebook before going live

The reason why the last two stockings are less full size than the others is because with my first batch my site screwed me up and allowed for overselling :-( There were also 3 bottles that were reserved as a "prize".

There and Back Again & The Fellowship release

9/12/2013

Happy Friday the 13th, everyone!

I couldn't allow today to pass without incident; I've been planning today's release(s!) for the last 4 months!! I hope it's been worth the wait for you all; it certainly has been for me.

Today I'm releasing not one collection today, oh no. Today I'm going to release two related collections!!

The first collection, The Fellowship, is inspired by...well...the Fellowship! It's a 9 piece set which has a lacquer dedicated to each Hobbit, Dwarf, Man, Elf, and Maiar in the Fellowship.

When swatching I paired some of The Fellowship/There and Back Again polishes. I'll begin by describing the Fellowship polishes and move into There and Back Again afterward. If you get confused as to which polish in a picture I'm discussing the bottle will match the color on my nails I'm writing about. It's hard to find time to swatch 18 polishes as a full mani!

Jinkies! Collection Release

8/5/2013

Scooby-Dooby-Doo, where are you? We've got some work to do now!

Oh, Scooby. For so many years I would watch Scooby Doo almost every night, there was little else to watch at 1AM on a weeknight so why not? After I got over the 70's quality of it I really began to enjoy it! And so, in continuing with my "make stuff based on Kyoti's nostalgia" theme I've finally fleshed out an idea that floated into my mind months ago.

I like to mix up things up a bit and not have just giant collections so this is only a trio based on my personal favorite things from the show. Presenting, Jinkies!
Picture
Being a brainy girl myself I always loved Velma most (and she's the namesake of the entire collection) so let's begin with her, shall we?
Picture
Jinkies!

Jinkies! is an orange jelly base with red hex, squares, and bars.

Brainy and beautiful, Velma helped me overcome my insecurities about wearing glasses and being quite a bookworm in my youth. Her polish, however, suffers from no such awkwardness and fears, and only her beauty remains!

Picture
Mystery Machine

Densely packed neon green and neon blue hex in a clear base.

After months and months of trying to snag a bottle of Floam I decided to take matters into my own hands and as I know this is a very common problem I wanted to share with you all as well! Anyways, I always think of the mystery machine when I see the green and blue glitters anyway, never Floam!

Due to the densely packed glitters this does have a rougher finish and may require more than one coat of topcoat to be smooth. I'm sorry there's no full-mani swatch of Mystery Machine but I wasn't interested in the ensuing torture that would surely come when I needed to remove it. The swatch shows only 2 coats over bare nail!

Picture
Ruh-Roh!

Dark brown jelly with various sizes of black hex.

I'm generally not a fan of the larger glitters but for Scooby I had to make an exception, and boy am I glad I did!

The larger glitters can sink but I had no issues getting an adequate amount on the nail.

And there you have it, folks! What do you think of these lacquers? I've been hesitant to release Mystery Machine since the original glitter combination was thought of by someone else. However, it's so insanely hard to get your hands on (and c'mon, those are totally Mystery Machine colors!) I finally decided to do so. I expect some people will disagree with my decision and that's absolutely their right!

In other news, I mentioned this yesterday on my Facebook but for those of you who missed it: I will be discontinuing the Nautical Nonsense collection on August 16th so if you want to fuel your cartoon-related lacquer addiction now is the time!

To anyone who has made an order in the last 48 hours or so and would like to add to their order please contact me to discuss shipping reimbursement!

Softening the Bad Things Release

7/29/2013

Picture
It's nearly time! It's been so hard to wait to release this color the last two weeks but I had to wait until today. Why today? Because today marks the 123rd anniversary of the last day of Vincent van Gogh's life. I felt that, given the message of Softening the Bad Things waiting for such a day was appropriate.

Mental illness affects us all directly and indirectly, whether it's ourselves, our families, our loved ones, or our friends who suffer from the illness.

Personally, my family has a long history of various mental illnesses, and I myself have suffered from varying degrees of depression and anxiety. Thankfully I've mostly gotten these under control but I certainly still struggle with them frequently.

My goal with Softening the Bad Things is twofold: first, to remind those who suffer from depression that every life is a pile of good things and bad things. The good things don't always soften the bad things, but vice-versa the bad things don't necessarily spoil the good things and make them unimportant. My second goal is to work toward a country and a world where mental illnesses such as depression have less of a social stigma. People are not scorned and shunned by others for having a physical illness which they had no choice in developing so why should those with mental illness be any different? Which is why, with the help of the wonderful people listed at the end of this post, we've been able to raise $250 to be donated to the National Alliance on Mental Illness, an advocate group for those suffering from, you guessed it: mental illness.

Should you or a loved one ever be in a situation where suicide feels like the best or only option please call the national suicide prevention lifeline at 1-800-273-8255.

Ok, enough with the serious stuff. How about a lovely painting by Vincent?

Picture
And how about an even more appropriate version by Accio Lacquer?
Picture
As I mentioned in my announcement post there are only 23 remaining bottles available for sale. My website does not have a cart hold option so checking out sooner really is much better than checking out later. Anyone who has to do multiple orders to get their bottle of StBT will have the shipping overages refunded.

Now, how about a refresher on how this lovely looks?
Picture
Picture
Should you miss the first run of Softening the Bad Things (or you decide you need a backup bottle or three), fear not! In a couple months I plan on doing a larger second run of this color and I'll be spacing out the restocks across 2 to 3 days and at different hours during the day to allow for people with less flexible schedules to have an opportunity to snag one.

If you are interested in more than one bottle of this please be considerate and only order one right now to allow for others to get one of the first-run bottles. I promise this won't be the only batch I make of these. However, if you're buying for yourself and for a friend that is, of course, totally awesome of you <3

Here is the product page! If you see a drop-down menu that means there are still some available!

The donation team

Below are the contributors ($25 each) to the NAMI donation.
